First Mile Health for People and Planet
Designing for the patterns of everyday life that keep people well—emotionally, physically, financially, and socially–will result in healthier people, healthier societies, and a healthier planet.
Health begins long before we enter a doctor’s office. In an interactive and energetic workshop, the IDEO team will explore First Mile Health, focusing on proactive, upstream health strategies. By integrating health into daily life—where we live, learn, work, and play—we can achieve better outcomes for both people and the planet.
Attendees from across the continuum of health will discover how early interventions and holistic approaches in care, can transform both human and environmental well-being, setting the stage for a sustainable future, in service of bringing equity, dignity, and joy to all.

Patient-centric Collaboration for a Healthier Climate
To date, much of the focus on tackling climate impact in healthcare has targeted improvement in the environmental footprints of life science companies and medical suppliers, or sought to tackle issues within the health delivery system, for example via NHS Greener. Given the compelling evidence that climate change will intensify negative health outcomes across populations in the UK and globally, how do we unlock the role of patients in driving climate-positive outcomes faster and at a greater scale?
We invite leaders from patient advocacy groups and life science companies to share thoughts around impact without intensifying health inequalities, inspiring people to healthy climate-friendly behaviours, and using the power of patients to call for innovative greener health systems.
